Michigan Uniform Energy Code (MUEC)

-According to the Michigan Uniform Energy Code, home builders can comply with the Energy Code for detached 1 and 2 family dwellings by-

1. Meeting the requirements of the code

2. Meeting the requirements for the IECC (International Energy Conservation Code)

3. Meeting the design, construction, and certification requirements under the US EPA Energy Star Homes Program. NorthWoods Energy is certified to qualify Energy Star Homes. To see Climate Zone Map and Energy Star Qualifications click here.

1. Northern Michigan (Climate Zones 6-8) needs a HERS sore of 80 or lower

2. Upper peninsula (Climate Zones 6-8) needs a HERS score of 80 or lower

3. Michigan (see "click here" above...Zones 1-5) needs a HERS score of 85 or lower

4. Meeting the design and construction requirements in conformance with the national Home Energy Rating System (HERS) guidelines with a score of 85 or lower. A certificate indicating the score prepared by an accredited agency shall be filed with the code official. NorthWoods Energy is an "accredited agency".

*Homes can comply with the Energy code if they are rated with a HERS score of 85 or lower.
